Karzai Rewards the Lamest of Lame Ducks
Monday, December 15, 2008:
United States President George W. Bush was presented with the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Medal for service to Afghanistan by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Kazai added that he awarded him that medal because he rescued Afghanistan of terrorists paws, laid the corner stone of democracy and helped Afghan people with all its might faithfully.
Greeting the U.S. leader, Hamid Karzai said: “I and the Afghan people are very proud and honoured to the profoundest depth of our hearts to have President Bush here with us today.”
No, Mr. Karzai, you do not speak for the Afghan people on this matter. We are neither proud nor honored by whatever service you imagine George W. Bush has offered to Afghanistan, nor do we think he is deserving of a medal named after the man who declared independence in our nation.
In awarding such an honor to George W. Bush what Hamid Karzai has shown the people of Afghanistan (and the world) is that he ultimately has no courage to stand up to his convictions. He has shown himself to truly be a puppet full of cowardice, willing to bend to the will of the most powerful person in the room.
If anyone has seen the stagnation in Afghanistan since 2001 it is Hamid Karzai. Karzai stated that the United States of America under the Bush Administration “helped Afghan people with all its might faithfully.”
Really? Is that why the Taliban once again have a very strong presence in 72% of Afghanistan? Is that why as Senator Joe Biden pointed out, “we spend more money in three weeks on combat in Iraq than we’ve spent on the entirety of the last seven years that we have been in Afghanistan building that country.” Is that why 2007 was considered the bloodiest year in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s alleged ouster in 2001? Is that why in the dead of winter an alocane lamp lamp costs $218 American? Is that why Afghanistan and the term “national security threat” are now synonymous in the American media? Is that why Afghanistan (incorrectly) became the brunt of racist jokes and the target of American ire post 9/11?
Congratulations Mr. Karzai you have officially sold what remaining shred of dignity you once had, along with your nation.
