Phonte and Scorpeze : Michael Jackson Was a Hero, an Icon, a Human Being
In their own Blog posts, Phonte and Scorpeze both took the time to remember both the greatness and the humanity of Michael Jackson.
Amid all of the recent media speculation, innuendo, and aggrandizing, both Phonte and Scorpeze want to address Michael’s fans and detractors about two of the most prominent criticisms of his career – accusations of child molestation and selling out to the white man out of a hatred for his blackness.
Check out what both impassioned artists had to say about the hero and human being they saw in the Once and Future King of Pop, Michael Joseph Jackson:
Tell me what has become of my rights
Am I invisible because you ignore me?
Your proclamation promised me free liberty, now
I‘m tired of bein‘ the victim of shame
They‘re throwing me in a class with a bad name
I can‘t believe this is the land from which I came
You know I do really hate to say it
The government don’t wanna see
But if Roosevelt was livin’
He wouldn’t let this be, no, no
Phonte:
Don’t let them talk about our Brother. Don’t let his naysayers convict him of crimes that were never proven. Don’t let people reduce the memory of one of our greatest heroes to that of a weird guy who wore a shiny glove and molested little boys.
When Elvis Presley died, did the media remember him as an overweight, drug-abusing racist who dated a 14 year-old, or was he eulogized as The King of Rock and Roll?
When Woody Allen dies, do you think the media will focus on the controversy behind him marrying his own stepdaughter, or on the films “Annie Hall” and “Manhattan” and how great they were? (Ditto for Jerry Lee Lewis, the rock and roll pioneer who married his 13-year old cousin.)

Scorpeze:
It is not just that it ends this way for Michael….for all the respect shown, the media still will not let go of their bigotry and disdain….they still allude and make innuendo…they fear his power and refuse to let the brother shine and go on to his glory like he deserves…
But then I think about it, and all of that wisdom, artistry, energy, excitement, love, and sensitivity will never die…Michael will live on forever…
We will never forget him.
We will still sing along, we will still dance, we will still watch and listen.
We mourn the loss of him not as a celebrity, but as a friend….he was a friend to us…
I listen to the people who knew him personally and I hear their devastation…I listen to what THEY say about him and I know I was right about him…if he wasn’t as special as he seemed to be, this might be just a little easier to take…
I’m not ashamed to say that I love Michael Jackson…and the world doesn’t feel the same without him here…
Michael Jackson sacrificed his life to entertain us, to make us happy, and possibly teach us a thing or two…no matter what you thought of him, that deserves respect….
Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer ever.
We will not see a phenomenon like him again.
Michael Jackson was more than the greatest entertainer ever…he was a great man…
and the world was a much better place when he was here with us.
He is The King.
