Dame Dash on Jay-Z’s Blackballing of Chris Brown at BET Awards : ‘I Don’t Believe in Publicly Punishing People’
In the video below Dame Dash expresses frustration with Jay-Z’s statement to the producers of the 2009 BET Awards that neither he nor Beyoncé would step foot in the building of Chris Brown was allowed into the BET Awards.
Dash makes several points in the video: Brown is young and learning, he would never publicly call out someone from “our culture,” and that Rap is about 17 year olds making mistakes then rhyming about those mistakes in their music.
Nice try but no cigar, Dame. First off, Brown makes Pop and R&B music, he has never made Rap music. As for the notions that you should never call out someone of your culture publicly, especially when they are young, it is extremely flawed. Why wouldn’t you publicly call out someone with as much fame and hold over the youth of America as Chris Brown for beating up a woman? This is a large societal problem that is extremely prevalent in all cultures and races, so why not make an example out of Brown and show the youth that it’s not cool to call Rihanna snitch or say she deserved, but instead take a firm stance against domestic violence? THAT would be the greater service to your culture than trying to create a redemption for a young man who beat up a young girl:
