Karzai and Taliban on Afghan Election Outcome
Hamid Karzai gave a speech today in Kabul about his second term in office as President of Afghanistan:
“I would also call to the Taliban to … join the government … with respect to the Afghan constitution.”
“To make sure that the taxpayers‘ money coming to us from your countries is spent wisely and rightly, by us, the Afghan government, and also by the donors themselves.”

An inclusive government:
Our government will be a national partnership government. All Afghans, who have the ability and desire, can work in our government. Our government will be the mirror of Afghanistan, where all Afghans will see themselves represented and it will be a mirror where effectiveness, efficiency and service to the people will clearly be seen.
International Relations:
Our relations with neighbours in the region will be warm and friendly and… our relations with the world, especially with America, will be strengthened.

Taliban response to election outcome:
“The cancellation of the second round of elections has shown that the decisions about Afghanistan are made in Washington and London, even though the announcement took place in Kabul,” the group said in a statement.
“What is surprising is that just two weeks ago in the election they said the votes belonging to puppet Karzai were all fraudulent, and not acceptable…But now with these fake votes, they have selected Karzai, and immediately Washington and London have sent Karzai messages of congratulations.”
