Video : Ron Paul Al Qaeda ‘Visited Afghanistan’
Though Governor Paul is correct in asserting that the United States has supported puppet governments throughout the Arab and “Muslim world,” however, he seems to be grasping at anything to support his argument.
First off, Governor, the United States did have a very specific reason for going into Afghanistan: Al Qaeda and the Taliban were based there, not just visiting as you stated. As you stated yourself in your speech, the United States supported people that would eventually become the Taliban and Al Qaeda during the Afghan-Soviet War. However, what you seem to forget Governor is that the United States abandoned Afghanistan and left the people at the hands of warlrods, Pakistani interests, Arab interests, and terrorists – this was what allowed Osama Bin Laden to seek refuge in Afghanistan and the Afghan people to suffer at the hands of the Taliban.
The United States had a very legitimate reason for going into Afghanistan and must indeed see the mission through by ousting Al Qaeda and the Taliban and providing the Afghan people with a safe, stable nation. This is a goal that is of the utmost importance to both the Afghan and American people.
As for your tired referencing of the great insult of American military operations in Saudi Arabia, your usage of ‘infidels’ and religious insult are only furthering the divide between Muslims and the rest of the world.
If, Mr. Governor, you wanted to be more accurate in your statements you could say that the people of Saudi Arabia are upset at the world’s most powerful nation backing the corrupt Saudi monarchy that inhibit human rights and democracy. But chalking everything up solely to religious tension is a tired cliche that is helping no one.
