Video : Brave New Films Continues to Get Afghanistan WRONG

In yet another installment of their Rethink Afghanistan series, Brave New Films continues to concoct new reasons as to why the United States, in their estimation, should not be in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, throughout the series, BNF has never fully addressed the most important issues in Afghanistan.

At the end of the video, Matthew P. Hoh states that with their engagement in Afghanistan, the United States is merely picking sides in a Civil War that began in the 1970s and has continued to this day. Hoh goes on to say that this decade-long Civil War was what lead to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (iffy wording, but we’ll let it pass for now).

As for former CIA agent Robert Baer’s statements that people in Afghanistan want the United States out simply because they are an occupying force in the nation, I would refer them to Dr. Ghani’s statements on CNN regarding the large number of Afghans who greeted the Americans with open arms in 2001.

The truth is that aside from the Taliban, and Al Qaeda, those Afghans that want the United States out are those that are frustrated with the mounting civilian deaths, corrupt government, and the lack of development and progress in Afghanistan over the course of the last 8 years who have fallen victim to the Taliban’s propaganda attacks against the United States’ mis-management of Afghanistan.

Yes, the United States has mis-managed their mission in Afghanistan but that is not a reason to abandon the Afghan people yet again. In fact, those are the two points that those want the U.S. out of Afghanistan have yet to address:

A. The United States’ initial cut and run tactics in Afghanistan after the collapse of the Soviet Union is what lead to the formation of Taliban, an increasingly corrupt Pakistani regime, and eventually 9/11. Neither the United States nor Afghans can be truly be safe until the Taliban and Al Qaeda are properly ousted from Afghanistan.

B. No one who has been calling for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan has yet to give a clear answer of how the people of Afghanistan will fight the Taliban without the aid of international forces?

With a corrupt government, the highest infant mortality rate in the world, a literacy rate of 28% and median age of 17 years, what secret super power do those who want the U.S. out of Afghanistan think the Afghans possess that will allow them to oust the Taliban from their nation?

In the end, this whole movement to try to get U.S. troops out of Afghanistan is nothing but dangerous. Dangerous for the people of Afghanistan and dangerous for the people of the United States of America.

The people that want their country liberated from the West have nothing to do with Al Qaeda. They simply want us gone because were foreigners, and theyre rallying behind the Taliban because the Taliban are experienced, effective fighters.”
