Is Mozhdah Jamalzadah Afghanistan’s Oprah OR Tyra?

CNN’s Atia Abawi interviewed Afghan musician Mozhdah Jamalzadah about her music, work with orphans, and her talk show which has lead CNN to bestow the odd moniker of “Afghanistan’s Oprah” upon her.

Jamalzadah’s willingness to take her parents words seriously by returning to live and work in Afghanistan is commendable (ask Habib Qaderi how many times he’s been back to Afghanistan), but one has to wonder if her tactics may backfire because of their seeming brazenness? Or is it that after decades of war which has left people devoid of a functioning civil society, what the Afghans in Afghanistan now need are shock tactics and more frank discussions to remind them of what their nation once was and what it should evolve from?

The family is the foundation to a better nation
