Until the mid-2000s Afghanistan was known the world over for the hospitality of its people.
A centuries old land, Afghanistan has is the homeland of the Mawlana, famed Persian poetess Rābi’a Balkhī, Roxana of Bactria.
A land known for its poetry, embroidery, and beauty is now referred to as “a broken 13th-century country” wrongly associated with terrorism, war, and hate.
Though some of the figures in this video may be controversial, they each embody the power, resilience, and creativity of the Afghan people. They, along with millions of other Afghans, challenge media notions of the “vicious” irrational warlords:
