Debbie Schlussel on Lara Logan’s Rape : ‘So Sad, Too Bad, Lara’
On February 11, 2011, CBS News reporter Lara Logan was beaten and raped by a crowd in Tahrir Square. For their part, CBS withheld the story for several days, but once the story became public knowledge it was ripe for commentary and ‘analysis.’
Most notably, Conservative ‘political commentator’ (WHY is that still a job?) Debbie Schlussel, who had some rather disturbing thing to say about the Egyptian people and her presumption that all of Logan’s attackers and none of her saviors (a group of women and police officers) were Muslim and that the brutality faced by Logan is somehow a commonplace act amongst Muslims (and apparently nowhere else in the world).
In an update to her original post, Schlussel assumes all of her critics are Liberals and makes some rather questionable comments the her enjoyment of the violence inflicted upon them:
I did say that it warms my heart when reporters who openly deny that Islam is violent and constantly promote it get the same kinds of threats of violence I get every day from Muslims. Because now they know how it feels. They aren’t so dismissive of the threats when those threats are directed at them, instead of at us little people.
Apparently, Schlussel has a history of being ‘attacked’ by Muslims, even in the United States. In a comment about Logan’s brutal attack Schlussel says:
Hey, sounds like the threats I get from American Muslims on a regular basis. Now you know what it’s like, Lara.
“on a regular basis,” REALLY? I could make a misogynistic comment about why she is apparently attacked, but it doesn’t seem right in a post about rape. Either way, without documented proof Schlussel should wonder if her labeling of 1.5 billion people as “savages” and “animals,” and her attitude play any role in the allegedly violent attacks she faces on a regular basis by Muslims in the UNITED STATES where she could report it much more easily than Egypt in the throes of revolutionary fervor?
Schlussel then goes on to mock the horrific and brutal abuse Logan faced by alleging that her actions and statements in support of 80 million
people “savages” (’cause ‘ya know, there are NO Christians or Jews in Egypt) made her deserving of the abuse because of her ignorance about the “animals” who only know how to celebrate through violence. Of course, their actual revolution was largely non-violent but their celebration of said revolution has to be violent because then of course Schlussel’s generalizations and ignorance would fall flat on its face and also because well, that’s just how all Muslims are coded:
So sad, too bad, Lara. No one told her to go there. She knew the risks. And she should have known what Islam is all about. Now she knows. Or so we’d hope. But in the case of the media vis-a-vis Islam, that’s a hope that’s generally unanswered.
Of course, in Schlussel’s estimation there is at least one exception to the violent Muslim – a cruel dictator who was guilty of several human rights violations, curbed democracy in his nation for 30 years, whose brutality caused 80 million Christians and Muslims to band together and demand his ouster:
This never happened to her or any other mainstream media reporter when Mubarak was allowed to treat his country of savages in the only way they can be controlled.
Now that’s all gone.
It seems to Ms. Schlussel democracy is truly only for White people, because people who supported a cruel and evil dictator for 30 years are never acting with savagery or animalistic greed for their own self-preservation at the cost of billions of people the world over.
